Established in 1924, Strathcona has provided a quality, caring education to girls in Melbourne for a century. From Strathcona’s early beginnings as a small school with just 17 students, to its current position as a leading girls' school in Melbourne, Strathcona has remained true to its mission of empowering girls to become confident, capable, and compassionate leaders – Unstoppable Girls. Strathcona is an independent, non-government school with multiple campuses. The main three campuses (Early Years, Junior School and Senior School) are situated 11 km east of the city centre of Melbourne in Canterbury. Tay Creggan (TC), located in Hawthorn, is Melbourne’s first independent Year 9 girls campus established in 1970. Unlike other Year 9 programs these students have the unique opportunity to study at a separate campus, while still living at home and importantly remaining part of the whole Strathcona school community. At the heart of the School, is the motto: fortiter fideliter, feliciter – bravely, faithfully and happily. It is these values which also underpin their core beliefs of their teaching and learning philosophy, as thinking is at the centre of everything they do.
